I first graduated from the FESS in 2018 as a Bachelor and then in 2020 as a Master. How does the FESS differ from other faculties? It seems to me that this is a super practical approach to learning, because all the projects that you are given, one way or another, will come in handy further: problems, whether they are in Analytics, Mathematics or, perhaps, Marketing or Finance – all of them will be very useful to you in the future. For example, I've been working in different startups all this time, in different countries. And some Mathematical models given by Svetlana Nikolaevna are so great at helping me build my working models. Or, for example, really cool lectures by Evgeny Dmitrievich, where you learn about projects, indicators, figures, how to count all this – it's so important in the work and it gives you such a boost – people look at you in a different way at once, (your colleagues) talk to you in a different way at once! You are savvy! Choose for yourself what you like best and absorb, listen carefully and good luck with your studies!
I am a 2017 graduate of the FESS. FESS is about versatility and diversity. There are few people who can say nowadays that they work in their degree field. The breadth and depth of studying disciplines at the FESS will allow you to choose the area of expertise in almost any field that you like and which is to your heart. FESS allows you to grow comprehensively and that is why, within 4 years of study, I successfully combined both the training itself and the activities in the Student Council of the Academy, one and a half years of which I was Chairperson. FESS is a family. And now, after quite a long time, I can say with confidence that this is indeed so. This is confirmed every year. FESS is for love!
What could be interesting about this program?
The result will be the creation of your own business or a significant development of an already started business. Here you can try your own startup. And this program also teaches projects as universal business development technologies.
The program brings a Master's Degree student to the level of a broad-based specialist who is able to conclude profitable agreements with investors, build a marketing strategy, competently select staff, and, if necessary, defend the interests of the company in an arbitration court.
Do graduates of non-core Bachelor's Degrees, for example, men with technical background, come to this Master's Degree program?
Graduates of technical universities come, for example, from Bauman Moscow State Technical University. As a rule, they have some idea, but they cannot make a competent business plan, they cannot monetize this idea – they lack entrepreneurial knowledge. They will get this knowledge in this Master's Degree program and start their own business here.
In general, the desire to create your own business is not related to the line of profession in which a guy or a girl received their first higher education. It's just that at some point a person suddenly doesn’t want to spin like a cog in someone else's mechanism anymore – they want to work for themselves. And many people manage to do it. We can cite a case when a girl, a graduate of the St.Petersburg State University of Veterinary Medicine, came without a clue about business, and a few years later became the owner of a veterinary clinic (with a two-story building).
Is only a small proportion of people capable of doing their own business?
A lot more people can do it than is commonly believed. In many developed countries, up to 80% of young people work in private business. At first, it may really seem impossible, but as a person gets the necessary knowledge, brings it to the next level when working on projects for real tasks of other companies, communicates with successful entrepreneurs, creates a business plan for his/her own business, he/she becomes psychologically and professionally ready to try.
